A beautiful village known as Hagnis

 

 A beautiful village in Shakar chiktan block . Hagnis is a village in Shakar chiktan block in Kargil district of UT ladakh India. It is located about 70 km towards east from district headquarter Kargil and about 185km west from district headquarters Leh .  it is one among the 11 villages of Shakar Chiktan Block of Kargil district. As per the administration records, the village code of Hagnis is 987. The village has 260 families. Hagnis is surrounded by Khalsi Block towards West , Shargole Block towards East , Kargil Block towards East.

According to 2011 census

The total population of Hagnis village is 1624 and number of house are 260 . The literacy rate of Hagnis village was 76.94% .

In Hagnis village, most of the village population is from Schedule Tribe (ST). Schedule Tribe (ST) constitutes 94.89 % of total population in Hagnis village. There is no population of Schedule Caste (SC) in Hagnis village of Kargil

the total geographical area of village is 129.1hectares.

                Agriculture

Agriculture is very important and main work of the villagers. Crops like Barley, wheat and pea are cultivated. Agricultural works begins in mid-April until September. There are canals to water fields as there used to be very less rainfall.


Climate

Hagnis has very cool climate with temperature dropping to −25 °C in winter. Very cool normal wind makes life harsh there in winter. In summer temperature rises to 20°C to 30°C.

In winter snowfall over above 1 feet will be there which is the main source of water for the summer. There is a big mountains namely Sumsdur , Largab  about 2.5 km & 3 km above the village respectively .

Ø Nearest hospital is Chiktan hospital about 5 km towards from Hagnis .

  and also a sub center hospital present in Hagnis.

Transport

Ø Nearest airport is Kargil airport but it is a non-operational airport located 70 kilometres from Hagnis.  The airport is included in UDAN scheme and is proposed to be operational in the near future. The nearest operational airport is the KBR airport Leh.

Ø There is no rail-connectivity to Kargil yet.

Ø  Hagnis are connecting through Roads.
